4 Signs Your Swimming Pool Needs Service Or Repair Today

There’s nothing quite like a refreshing dip in the pool on a hot summer’s day. Making sure your pool is ready to be enjoyed when the hot weather hits is all about proper and regular maintenance.

But, sometimes, a pool needs a little bit of TLC over and above your usual maintenance schedule.

4 SIGNS YOU NEED POOL SERVICE OR REPAIR

Keep your eyes peeled for the following warning signs:

1. DIRTY WATER

If you’re faithful in treating your water yet it still seems cloudy, that could be a sign of a piping problem, a blocked filter or a malfunctioning pump.

Pool pipes can become clogged with debris, slowing the flow of water through your filter. If your pipes are clear but the water remains dirty, it’s likely a sign your sand filter is clogged. Filters should be changed every three to five years, depending upon how often you use your pool.

If neither of these is the culprit, that means your pool pump is on the fritz and it is not filtering or circulating the water properly. If this is the case, it’s best to call in a pool expert to handle the repair.

2. FREEZING WATER

If your pool water is frigid, even when the heater is on, it’s a sure sign that the heating system needs a professional’s touch. While cold water could be a sign the heater is not receiving enough water or airflow, it could also be a mechanical issue. This is not a problem to tackle yourself. Call a professional repair service for an assessment.

3. CRACKED OR PEELING WALLS

Cracks are not just unsightly; they can cause leaks and require immediate repair. It’s best to turn to a pool expert that is able to assess if the cracks are being caused due to a structural problem or if they’re due to poor-quality cement or inadequate sealing.

If your walls are peeling, it’s a sure sign that your pool requires resurfacing. Calling a pool professional to inspect the damaged areas is wise. He or she will be able to tell you if resurfacing is required in specific areas or on the entire unit.

4. BROKEN LIGHTS

Water and an electricity problem do not make for a safe swimming environment. If you notice an issue with your lights, you will need to refrain from swimming until the problem is fixed.

Your pool will need to be drained and the electricity shut off immediately so the lighting problem can be addressed. Unless you’re an electrician, this is a job best left to the professionals because an improperly installed light can be very dangerous.
